West Devon is home to a wide number of high quality farms and food producers as well as artisan makers.  There is an abundance of first class grass fed meat, locally produced cheeses and dairy produce as well as bread makers, cider and apple juice makers ( including our own here at Borough Farm ) fresh fruit and vegetables is also in abundance. With its two coastlines and proximity to Cornwall,  Devon is also blessed with top quality sea food.

As a direct result of this fabulous supply chain,  there are numerous top quality and award winning farm shops, pubs and restaurants in the area,  all of which use the best local ingredients in their dishes.

We have our favourites here at Borough Farm and are very happy to recommend these as reputable establishments.

At the top of our list would be Coombeshead Farm which grows many of its own produce which is served quite theatrically in a beautiful converted barn off its courtyard.  Diners can watch the food being cooked and served,  we thoroughly recommend their Sunday roast.

Next comes two sister pubs, our local the blacksmiths arms at Lamerton and the Cornish arms in tavistock.  Great food,  great atmosphere and superb service.

Also highly recommended and very much frequented by the local community is the castle inn at Lydford.  Low beams, log fires,  good local ales and homemade pies - their diner’s favourite.

For a top quality cream tea,  then head to Endsleigh Hotel, situated on the Devon bank of the Tamar,  overlooking Cornwall.  The service is exemplary,  the hotel is dog friendly and on a fine day there is no better spot than sitting under the canvas parasols sipping tea and eating cake while swallows dart overhead.

Another great local pub is the Springer Spaniel, with hearty portions and log fires.

The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford has won numerous awards for their fine dining.  The Arundel at Lifton is also dog friendly and serves a good pint and lovely local food in their bar area.

There is also Alder vineyard locally at Lewdown, which has wine tours, tasting and a great cafe for coffee and light lunches.

We are a little remote for takeaways to be delivered although there are a few that have been persuaded to drive out of town.  Sagor restaurant in Launceston has a very good curry and the birds nest in Tavistock is good too.  Thursday night is pizza night at Borough Farm where Julia can be seen to be cooking the pizzas on the log fired pizza oven in the courtyard.
