Harvest, woodsmoke and the first fires

Autumn is the farm's larder season. Apples come off the orchard for juice, blackberries go into jam with them, and the wood stores — seasoned dry in the barns all year — start feeding the stoves, fire pits and hot tubs. The moor turns bronze and the walking is at its best.

What happens here in

September – October

Orchard harvest

Apple juice pressed from the farm's own orchard — every arriving guest gets a bottle — and blackberry-and-apple jam from the hedgerows.

From the first cold nights

Fire season begins

The wood-fired hot tubs come into their own — fed with the farm's own seasoned logs, they reward patience with steam under a cold sky.

All season

Fungi, deer and dark skies

The nature journals turn to fungi and rut-season deer, and the dark-sky evenings stretch out — star-gazing books wait in every stay.
